The Acquisition of Thangs

I'll get to the cute shit purchased first & save the dirty stuff for last. I finally found a new tote (I had been borrowing Katya's cherished tote from some art museum in NY). It's really cute and was only $12! It looks like a picture from the cover of a old Vogue.

I found a new dress at this little hole in the wall that just opened on Broadway called Yellowbean. I have'nt decided if I'm wearing it to the Vunt Foom show on Sunday or saving it for Cornerstone...probably the latter, one can never look fabulous enough at Cornerstone. I have to find some earrings that match it though.

I didn't buy it, but I found this retro hat box amoungst all the shit that dwells in the Grandma's home and have dubbed it my new memory box. Threw all my baby pictures, concert tickets, movie stubs etc. into it. It has good colors too and will match the decor of my imagined apt. nicely.

I've been starved (or dehydrated?) of tea until yesterday. I drink loose leaf Chinsese teas and my favorites are pricey but I was finally able to afford some and picked up some grade A Wen Shan Bao Zhong and some flowery jasmine pearls at Teahouse KuanYin in Wallingford (such a cute part of the city!). Very tasty...

Onward to dirty thangs that compliment dirtier deeds I went on two trips to Babeland (the best sex boutique in WA and probably in the states)and made several purchases including a riding crop, weights, lube and some cute novelty bullshit. I have to say the weights have proven to be by far the most entertaining of the bunch. They're called Smartballs and they're supposed to work out the muscles one uses to clench and other such delicious things. They're so fun! I wear them to work everyday now. They have an inner weight that jiggles around when you walk and it reminds me of Tom Robbin's character Tanuki from Villa Incognito and his pla-bonga-ing. I call them my Tanuki balls (as Tanuki's are known for their large testicles). I think they'ed be fun to jog with if I such atheletic inclintions (which I of course, do not). The crop has not been tested yet...i'll report back on that one, I will say that it has a nice bite to it though...

Change of Seats

I found another settee on craigslist today that I may like even more than the first one. The owner never responded on the red one, but meh...this one's cute and I don't have to spend a fortune getting it new fabric and reupholstered (it's $375). As I recall the art director of Amelie purposely filtered out all of the blues in the film, the only thing blue being Amelie's misplaced blue lamp in her living room. Instead of a lamp I might just use the settee to unsettle my red themed apt. Friends would vie to sit on the blue that caught their eye. It's velvet too! Cozy...I might even have to do this ^.~*

Amelie's Apt. in Room 2046

Got bored the other day and watched Amelie again and started plotting the decor for an apartment that I don't have (yet). I always loved her Apt. and not so secretly have wanted to recreate it for myself once I move. To skank the place up a bit (as it is the Tia way to do so) I want to combine some of the elements from the Wong Kar Wai's films In the Mood for Love and 2046 in my decorating.

In The Mood for Love

2046

For the Living Room:

I found this really cute antique settee on craigslist, and if the seller ever emails me back I shall own it soon. It needs re-upholstering, but meh...it's cute and worth it. Only $125.

I also found the fabric I want to use on it at Mood:

The windows in her apt. have sheer red draperies on the inside and on the outer side are cream colored draperies with designs on it. The sheer red fabric should be easy enough to find so I concerned myself with the cream and found this fabric to my liking. Gods, I hope my sewing skills are still ok after the long hiatus.

Amelie has a bunch of cozy looking chairs that i'd love to curl up in but imma have to skip out on because they'd take up too much space and it'll hurt the boy's backs when they have to help me move them. I won't skip out on her over abundance of pillows though. I might make them, might not...depends on how creative i'm feeling. If I don;t make them I'm sure I can find some at Pier 1 or something...

Living Room Accessories:

I'll hit the antique malls for a low-lying coffee table when the time is right and I have found the Apt. I want.

Didn't see any bookshelves in Amelie but there was one in Tony Leung's Apt. 2027 that he put to good use rutting...but yes there must be some bookshelves...in my bedroom too and maybe a mini shelf for the bathroom (a place for my waterproof Aqua Kama Sutra).

The Kitchen

Amelie has a cute assortment of herbs in the kitchen windowsill, while I would prefer a place with a balcony so I could have a small balcony garden, I suppose a window garden would suffice.

Sheer cream colored draperies, as with the red ones in the living room it shouldn't be a hassle finding the fabric.

I like her green toaster...maybe I can find one similar at fireworks?

Her wooden bead curtains also an easy find, but I haven't decided if I want one or not...

Cream and red checker wallpaper that is beneath the cabinets (red painted...maybe I can convince my lanlord...if not I could always use some contact paper or something) should be easy to find.

The Bedouir

They use alot of cute wallpapers in Amelie's Apt. vs. the red and green leather paneling and dividers in Wong Kar Wai's flicks. Tenants usually aren't allowed to put up wallpaper but I found one similar to her's in hopes that my currently imagined landlord is fabulous and in love with the idea of me redecorating their drab walls. If not I can alway find some fabric and starch it to the walls. I like the paneling alot to so hopefully I can find/ D.I.Y similar panels as room dividers (like the green ones in 2046) or for the head rest on my bed.

If I can use the wallpaper, I want to use this one. It's the closest one I could find to the one in Amelie's bedroom.

Bedroom Accessories:

I can't find her cute little green TV/VCR anywhere...oh well, I don't watch television that often anyhow.

There is no shortage of Amelie-esque lamps/lampshades at my Granny's house so I'll steal a few of those instead of searching far.

Love the mirrors with b&w photos in 2046, in the bedrrom and in the bathroom maybe.

The Bathroom

Amelie's bathroom was a little plain so no help there. The only thing I really want from her BR is the clawfoot tub...I love them. I've seen a few apt. for rent with clawfoot tubs so I'll keep an eye out. I also kind of want an antique red ottoman with tassles so one of my concuines and or minions can keep me compny whilst bathing...serve me tea and such.

Will cont. plotting my imagined apt. in the future...
